Lyme Disease Awareness Month

May is Lyme Disease Awareness month. The presence of Lyme disease is increasing in Manitoba and black legged ticks have been recorded in the area around the club.

Some simple precautions include wearing insect repellent with DEET, long pants and socks and staying out of tall grass. For more information about ticks & tick borne disease check out the following resources:

Junior Rifle Program on hiatus

Welcome Range Officer David Payne

The Executive has approved David Payne as a Volunteer Range Officer for the club. David will be checking in to the club regularly to assist members and enforce club rules.

The Volunteer Range Officer will:

  1. Function as a friendly, respectful and knowledgeable ambassador for the SGFA.
  2. Actively patrol SGFA ranges and grounds to provide information and assistance, prevent or correct rule violations, maintain a safe environment, determine range conditions, and ensure club buildings and assets are secure.
  3. Ensure only authorized persons are on SGFA grounds per the “SGFA Policy”
  4. Assist Members with information, safe shooting advice, clearing stoppages and malfunctions, first aid, and render other such assistance as necessary.
  5. Inspect ranges and provide condition reports and maintenance requests.
  6. Enforce club rules as required; document and investigate violations.
  7. Submit reports to the Executive and contact for advice as appropriate.
  8. Take charge in emergency incidents, manage response, document and report.

Due to the interest in our club it may take more than two weeks to return emails and process membership letters through email. Mail-in membership can still take more than four weeks.

Range 4 (Hangun Club) Lock

We’ve had to replace the lock on the Range 4 gate with a more durable model. THE COMBINATION HAS NOT CHANGED, however you must now line up the numbers in the middle. There is a mark on the lock to indicate this, see the picture below.

Membership Update

New membership applications are being accepted on our website. Online membership is instant, mail in membership can take more than four weeks to process.

Due to the extremely high volume of membership sales we are a bit overwhelmed with email. Our club volunteer is working to respond to emails but it may take more than seven days to respond.
